Information
Jean-Marie Fourrier took over the 10 hectare family domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin in the 1990s at the age of 23. He gained his experience at Domaine Drouhin and from the legendary Henry Jayer and took over the family traditions. He has plots in Griotte-Chambertin and in the Clos St Jacques whose vines were planted at the beginning of the last century. Jean-Marie Fourier works his vines as naturally as possible, with very little intervention and with minimal use of sulphites and new wood. His wines are of a very high standard and are characterised by their great aromatic purity
Since 1990 Jean-Marie Fourrier has been cultivating prestigious climats such as Mazoyères-Chambertin on the grands crus of Chambertin and Latricières. Here the Pinot Noir vines grow in a terroir of clay-rich soil with chalky rocks. This producer works using only massal selection to replace his vines and has long-banned chemical products from the vineyard. Sulphur is used sparingly and indigenous yeasts are left to do their work in fermentation. The maturation takes around 18 months in oak barrels (20% new wood). This Mazoyères-Chambertin has a deep hue and an impressive nose of red fruits. The palate is sumptuous, making way for all the flavour of the Pinto structured by characterful tannins. Wait a few years before opening it, and your patience will be rewarded.
