Information
Joseph Matrot, the grandson of vineyard owners in Puligny-Montrachet, settled in Meursault at his wife's family domaine in 1914. Six generations later, the sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot joined their parents Thierry and Pascale on the domaine. Since 2000, the 22 hectare vineyard has been converted to organic farming.
Recently accepted into the select club of producers with 2 stars from the RVF, Domaine Matrot confirms itself – vintage after vintage – as a reference point in Meursault. Their ‘Charmes’ premier cru is a good example of what they can do. The archetype of a fine Meursault, the grapes are picked by hand then pressed as a whole harvest. Fermentation takes place with the help of indigenous yeasts, followed by the malolactic fermentation that confers the fleshy profile so characteristic of the appellation. The wine is matured for 15 months in oak casks. This cuvée is brilliant in the glass, with a nose of delicate buttery and citrus notes. The body of this cuvée on the palate is balanced by a good minerality. In terms of ageing, this wine can be kept in the cellar for around twenty years.
