Information
Originally from South Korea, Mee Godard can't claim to have wine in her blood. Her ancestors were certainly not winemakers but her adoptive parents encouraged her to spread her wings in the viticultural industry. So armed with several degrees in biology, biochemistry and oenology, Mee Godard acquired a few hectares of vines in Beaujolais, a region she is fond of for the beauty of its landscapes. It was on Morgon that she set her sights in 2013 before falling in love with some other beautiful vines in Moulin-à-Vent in 2016. There, inspired by the local tenets of the natural wine movement, she forged ahead in producing deep, dense, elegant and lively wines with splendid freshness thanks to an organic growth and Burgundian vinification. One thing is certain, this woman will go far, bringing the future of Beaujolais with her. She is definitely one to watch.
This Morgon comes from a terroir of blue stone soils, meticulously nurtured by Mee Godard. After a manual harvest, the wine undergoes plot-by-plot vinification, in the traditional ‘Burgundian’ style, followed by a three-week vatting period and 11 months of ageing in a variety of vessels (foudres, demi-muids, barrels, and vats).
We recently had the chance to taste the 2018 vintage recently in the Mee Godard cellar, an extremely pleasant wine with a Côte du Rhône feel. This cuvée offers a superb structure, with intense aromas of sweet spices and dark fruits. Its supple tannins make it a great choice for pairings with regional specialities. Need pairing ideas? We’re here to help: how about some chicken lasagne, serving it as an aperitif with an assortment of fine charcuterie, or even a rich beef tongue broth? We recommend letting this wine soften a few more years in your cellar before opening it, ensuring an unforgettable experience for your guests.
