Information
Gianni Brunelli is originally from Montalcino. He returned in 1987 to take over the running of his father’s property, “La Chiusa de Sotto”. The 5-hectare domain is located to the north-east of Montalcino where Sangiovese in planted on 2 hectares while olive trees grow in the rest of the domain for the production of olive oil. Their philosophy is to produce wines which are as natural as possible. The environment is something which is important to Gianna Brunelli, and so everything is done in order to have as small an impact as possible on the environment. The grapes are grown by hand and yields are limited to guarantee the quality of the juices.
This Brunello di Montalcino was matured for 5 years in casks, as the appellation stipulates (the longest élevage in all of Italy). It has an intense ruby red colour, aromas of small black fruits on the nose lifted by notes of nutmeg. The tannins are pleasant and on the whole the wine is harmonious. The finish is long.
