Information
As this estate on the hillsides of Ampuis has been in the family for seven generations, it was perfectly natural for Stéphane Ogier to take over from his father Michel in 1997. Having learned his craft in Burgundy, he has decided to produce single-plot wines to achieve the best expression of each terroir. He also strives constantly for elegance and finesse. Today, the vines are planted on 27 hectares of granite and shale soil. Viticulture is conducted according to sustainable principles. Two distinct terroirs define the estate’s identity: the Côte Brune and the Côte Blonde, both shaped by a relatively cool climate. Since 2015, the estate operates in an ultramodern winery, equipped with over 600 barriques, ensuring precision in both vinification and ageing. Today, Stéphane Ogier’s wines clearly belong among the elite, thanks to his unwavering pursuit of excellence driven by passion, ambition, talent, and creativity.
Grown following sustainable methods, the thirty-year-old Syrah which makes up this cuvée has been manually harvested, destemmed and macerated cold in stainless steel thermo-regulated vats to preserve the freshness of its fruit. The domain has chosen to give the wine a certain structure by aging it in barriques for 18 months. Its garnet hue unfurls a delicately fruity, peppery and liquorice bouquet. The palate has the same freshness and lingers beautifully.
