Information
Agricola Punica is a joint-venture between the mythical domain Tenuta San Guido (producer of the famous Sassicaia), the Sardinian wine merchant Cantina di Santadi and the famous Tuscan enologist Giacomo Tachis. In 2002, the first vines were bought, 170 hectares divided into two domains: Barrua and Narcao, located in southern Sardinia, in the Isola dei Nuraghi IGP. The grape varieties include Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah for the red wines, whereas for the whites (5 hectares), the vineyard is planted with Vermentino and Chardonnay.
This cuvée is created using the cryo-maceration technique: the grapes are cooled using dry ice to keep them at a low temperature. They are then pressed and fermented at approximately 16°C in a stainless steel vat and aged on the lees for 40 days. The two grape varieties are then blended and aged for 3 months in concrete tanks. The wine is not filtered or fined. It boasts a bright yellow hue and a tropical fruit and citrus bouquet. It is perfectly balanced on the palate and is quite fresh and saline. It can be served either with fish or white meat, and is also ideal for aperitifs.
