Information
Located on the outskirts of the village of Montalcino, the Colle al Matrichese de Conti Costanti vineyard produces some of the most sought-after wines in the Brunello di Montalcino DOC, including the ultra-scarce Riserva. The Costanti family is intimately associated with the history of the village as it was involved in the wars between Florence and Sienna. The Costanti were ennobled in 1711 by the court of Venice for their bravery. Since then, from father to son, the family has been a standard bearer for the vineyard both in Italy and internationally. Andrea Costanti has been at the helm of the domaine since 1983. Wines have become even more delicate and complex.
La Riserva is the domain's grande cuvée. It is produced only in exceptional years. Fermentation Is conducted exclusively with native yeasts. Light cap punching and pumping over are performed. The wine is then matured for 24 months in French barrique barrels, then 24 months in Croatian tuns... following which, it is left for one year in the bottle before going on sale. This cuvée was produced in 1974, 1975, 1983, 1985, 1988, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2010. It is a wine to be kept for between 30 and 40 years. Examples from the 1970s are now exceptional.
