Information
The estate can trace its history back to the mediaeval era, as it was fortified by the Florentines in 1204. It still bears the traces of these fortifications, notably in the ageing cellar. San Giusto a Retennano passed into the hands of the Martini di Cigala family by marriage in 1914. Today, it is managed by their descendants and their partners – Anna, Lucia, Elisabetta, Francesco, Alessandro and Luca. They have all played their part in achieving organic certification for the domaine.
This is a cuvée of pure Merlot from vines planted in the 1990s on the Tuscan terroir of Ricolma. After an élevage in French oak barrels for 20 to 22 months, the wine is stored in the domain's cellars for a further six months before being released. This Tuscan Merlot constitutes easily rivals the finesse and intensity of certain Pomerols. On the nose, aromas of dried tomatoes and liquorice will surprise you; enjoy with a tender and tasty meat.
