About the producer

The Thanisch family boasts a long winemaking pedigree. It acquired the iconic Berncasteler Doctor vineyard in 1882, which is possibly one of the most coveted domaines in Germany today. Old vintages are sought-after worldwide. In 1986, a Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese 1921 went under the hammer for 11,200 Deutschmarks (approximately 15,000 euros today).

About the wine

This legendary German wine comes from a parcel of just one hectare of 80-year-old vines planted behind the village of Bernkastel. The vineyard has the perfect aspect for Riesling, making for elegant and spicy white wines. The property avoids adding yeasts and filtering its wines.
