Information
Romain Guiberteau has been in charge of the 14.5 hectare family domain in the communes of Montreuil-Bellay, Brézé and Bizay since 1996. The vineyard has been certified organic since 2003 and is planted with Chenin and Cabernet Franc. Some of the vines are around 60 years old. The soil is tilled and left with grass cover. The only additives used are sulphur, copper and plant decoctions. A true leading light in the region, Romain Guiberteau, originally from Berry, makes wines reputed to be among the best in the Loire.
Les Motelles exudes aromas of red fruit, slightly kirsch cherries, peppers and floral notes; the ageing is done discretely. On the palate, we discover a fine volume, fruity flavours and supple substance thanks to fine tannins and a fairly marked but very pleasant acidity. This wine sometimes has a slight reduction at the opening, so it is better to decant or at least let it air for several minutes or even an hour before tasting. This wine goes well with red and grilled meat.
