Information
It is to the fabulous Grand Cru Musigny, of which he is the main owner, that Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé owes its world fame. Along with the AOC vineyards at Chambolle-Musigny and Bonnes Mares, the Comte de Vogüé domain owns 70% of the Musigny region. It is also the only one to produce white as the appellation decree allows it. Today, Baroness Bertrand de Ladoucette, from a long line of de Vogüés, directs the estate. In 1986 she hired well-known oenologist, François Millet, to manage the domain. He applied his philosophy of minimum intervention in the winemaking process. Ignoring market trends that encourage vineyards to produce “ready to drink” wines, his approach consists in getting the best out of each harvest and is quite the contrary. Whether the vintage promises to be exceptional or not, quality remains the priority. Since then it has been very successful and remains the most prestigious house in Chambolle-Musigny. Moreover, the domain does not hesitate to downgrade all the grapes coming from vines judged not old enough.
Le Bonnes Mares from Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is a bold, tight and imposing wine. Its structure and concentration compared to other wines in the range make a real impression. It is a delight after aging for 10-30 years.
