Chambertin Grand Cru Armand Rousseau (Domaine)
Information
About the producer

The domain was established in 1902 by Armand Rousseau who, when he reached adulthood, inherited several parcels of vines situated in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, in Burgundy. Over the years, he continued to expand his domain by purchasing Grands Crus such as Clos de la Roche, Mazis Charmes or even Chambertin. In 1954, he bought the First Growth Clos-Saint-Jacques in the name of his son Charles. It is now Eric, the son of Charles, and grandson of Armand who runs the domain. Producing exclusively red wines, the domain has established itself with its legendary cuvées such as Lavaux Saint Jacques or Chambertin as one of Burgundy’s icons. The most beautiful expressions of Pinot Noir are undoubtedly in these wines.

About the wine

When a fine Pinot meets a fine terroir, this is the result. Armand Rousseau’s Chambertin is undoubtedly the finest wine in the village of Gevrey. The grapes come from four parcels, some of which are not machine-friendly. In these cases, the domain makes use of horses on the land. The vines grow in clay-chalk soils, particularly propitious for Pinot varieties. No need to state that the harvests are all manual, with each grape checked before going into the vat. The vinification methods have changed very little since the first vintage. Chambertin is the wine of kings and is powerful and impressive in its concentration. It also has superb ageing potential.
