Information
The Muga family has been intimately associated with wine for many decades. In the late 19th century, their wines were already receiving prizes for their quality. Today, the domaine is run by Manuel and Isaac Muga Martinez, who took over the reins when their father passed away in 1969.
This wine is a blend of several indigenous varieties including Garnacha (Grenache), Graciano, Manzuelo and Tempranillo, cultivated on soil rich in limestone and alluvial deposits. It is matured in traditional oak barrels for six months followed by a further 24 months in small oak casks. Before it is released for sale it is bottle-aged for another year in the property’s cellars. This is a very intense and lively wine with prominent, ripe red and dark fruit notes and a hint of the empyreumatic from its time in barrels. The palate is supple and perfectly balanced but needs time to allow its tannins to fully soften.
