Information
The Autard family has a passion for wine in its genes and Jean-Paul Autard has been running Domaine Paul Autard since he was 17. All his viticulture and winemaking choices are driven by the goal of achieving balanced wines that blend power and concentration with elegance and finesse. The property lies between Courthézon and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, on a predominantly sand and pebble terroir. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Muscardin are grown for red and Clairette wines, and Roussanne and Grenache Blanc are cultivated for white. The wines are extremely appealing in their youth but also have very good ageing potential.
The domain’s white Châteauneuf-du-Pape comes from two plots: Les Serres, planted with Roussanne, and "Le Revès" with Grenache blanc. While the wine is distinguished by its finesse and elegance (thanks to the Roussanne), it owes its power and structure to the Grenache. These two plots contain the famous pebbles which are typical of Châteauneuf, giving the wine a fine longevity. There is no malolactic fermentation and the wine matures on the lees in concrete vats for six months in order to preserve the fruity aromas which come from the grape.
