Information
The Autard family has a passion for wine in its genes and Jean-Paul Autard has been running Domaine Paul Autard since he was 17. All his viticulture and winemaking choices are driven by the goal of achieving balanced wines that blend power and concentration with elegance and finesse. The property lies between Courthézon and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, on a predominantly sand and pebble terroir. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Muscardin are grown for red and Clairette wines, and Roussanne and Grenache Blanc are cultivated for white. The wines are extremely appealing in their youth but also have very good ageing potential.
The Côte Ronde from Paul Autard is produced from 90-year-old vines growing in a soil of pudding stones and fossilised limestone. This cuvée has been matured for sixteen months in new oak barrels after 20-30 days' maceration in vats, interspersed with punching down. The wine has a very expressive nose of cherry, lavender and tobacco. It is dense, concentrated and very rich, with marked tannins that are conducive to a long period of ageing.
