Loire Valley | 2005 vintage
The incredibly early 2005 vintage is looking set to be of very high quality in the Val de Loire and across all other regions. Summer temperatures were exceptionally high by day, with cool nights and minimal rainfall: all the right ingredients for a very healthy harvest. The volumes harvested are very reasonable, although lower than the average amount harvested in the past five years. The red wines display superb quality across all appellations, while the whites offer beautifully mature fruit and a good balance between sweetness and acidity, which hints at very long ageing potential. Over all, this vintage can be compared to the greatness of 1996 or 1990.
