Loire Valley | 2002 vintage
The ultimate vintage for dry white wines! Because of an anticyclonic late autumn that banished all memories of the rainy months that came before, all grape varieties enjoyed a golden moment, except perhaps Gamay, which was slightly affected by rot. The Muscadet is a great success, the Sauvignon displays a rare richness and the Chenin a spectacular purity. The red wines, on the other hand, display severe disparities from region to region. Although robust and lively, the lack of fruit maturity lets them down. Nevertheless, the best Cabernet Franc cuvées seem to stem from Chinon, Saumur and Saumur-Champigny. As for the sweet wines, they are negligible, barely reaching the 20° potential alcohol content mark.
