Loire Valley | 1999 vintage

After a wet September and exceptional October that managed to save the day, the 1999 vintage allowed wine-makers who prioritise quality to stand out. The dry and demi-sec whites are particularly outstanding, emerging as light and fruity, with some boasting fantastic concentration and looking very promising indeed. The best of them are full-bodied and well-rounded, displaying excellent maturity, while others are more refreshing. The Savennières are powerful, distinguished and show consistent quality. The Bonnezeaux, Coteaux-du-Layon and Quarts-de-Chaume are elegant, refined and fresh. Having felt the effects of the rainy season, Pouilly-Fumé produced supple yet fruity wines. The Sancerre wines, while inconsistent, are full-bodied, well-balanced and low in acidity. The Coteaux-du-Layon yielded some very high quality sweet wines, albeit in small amounts. The Vouvray and Montlouis, of average quality, are characterised by a generous fruitiness.
