Champagne | 2013 vintage
In Champagne, although 2013 wasn't a poor year, the vintage does seem inferior compared to the good, even excellent 2012. Like most regions in France, a long, wet winter and a cool, damp spring delayed the harvests considerably (two weeks later than on average) and the maturity levels of grapes was mixed.
Of the Champagne region's three main grape varieties, Chardonnay seemed to have fared best, while Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier performed a little under par, especially in the Aube. In general, there will probably be significantly fewer vintage cuvées than in 2012.
