Burgundy | 2003 vintage

2003 was marked by a period of dry and sunny weather that has not been seen since 1822! It was above all an early vintage. Due to numerous climatic incidents that threatened the quality of the grapes (frost in April, hail in June and July, burnt grapes in August), the harvest had to be very severely sorted ¿ indispensable to guarantee a good vintage. Hence, the volume of wine produced was low, 30 to 40% less than in 2002. The remaining grapes were very sound and produced gorgeous cuvées, admittedly lacking in acidity but nevertheless perfectly balanced. The red wines, rich, almost opulent, have splendid aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, spices and liquorice. They have an extraordinary length on the palate and density, similar to the legendary 1929 wines. The whites, remarkably ample and suave, are stamped with delicious perfumes of white-fleshed fruit, citrus fruits and grilled almond that evoke the 1947 and 1959 wines.
