Burgundy | 1984 vintage
This year the wines suffered from the irregular weather. July and August were very sunny without being excessively hot, but were marked by violent and localised hail storms. A dull and rainy September with little sun was not particularly conducive to ripening. Average coloured, the red wines are also slightly lacking in substance and length on the palate. Despite a slightly bitter finish due to insufficiently ripe tannins, they have asserted themselves with elegance and a crisp acidity. The white wines also pointed to a vintage lacking in maturity. Very floral, they have a characteristic liveliness about them. They had a pleasant aromatic freshness in their youth but, like the red wines, they needed to be drunk fairly quickly.
