Alsace | 2008 vintage
The 2008 vintage is a very good classical vintage in Alsace. Their acidity and minerality are similar to those of 2007, except that they are also enveloped with a lovely fruity taste, as soon as they hit the palate. This marked fruitiness is due to the slow ripening of the grapes due to the cool climate, which brings out the aromatic of the berries. The cool weather also slowed down the development of rot so that the grapes were harvested healthy with sufficient acidity for a good cellaring. This is a fundamental typicity of Alsace wines which need a cool and slow ripening. To recap, this is a good vintage, fresh and fruity with lots of finesse and a predictably long cellaring capacity.
