Alsace | 2002 vintage
The 2002 vintage in Alsace was marked by an extremely cold winter which explains why the vegetative cycle started slowly. However, the flowering, from mid-June, was quick and very regular. The rain however, although less abundant than in other French wine regions, altered the sanitary state of the grapes, particularly since it fell just before the harvests. The quality of this very abundant harvest proved to be fairly average. Only the best terroirs fared well, as did the Vendange Tardive (late harvest) and the Sélection de Grains Nobles (Selection of Noble Berries) cuvées (especially the Gewürztraminer), thanks to the milder weather in October.
