        Stroh

Stroh, which was named after its founder Boštijan Stroh, is a rum ersatz—known as an “Inländer-Rum”, which is essentially a local rum—produced first in Sankt Paul im Lavanttal, then Klagenfurt, Austria, since the 19th century. The brand was created in 1832 and began producing liqueurs and brandy in 1857. Without access to sugarcane products, the flavour of molasses was at the time created through the use of a wide range of ingredients and colourings. The sweetness of this recipe led Stroh to be awarded a gold medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900. The recipe has since changed and today uses real sugarcane products. Stroh is often used in Austrian and central European ski resorts to create Jagertee, a punch made from Stroh and spiced black tea.
