Michel Juillot

Established for several generations in Mercurey, Domaine Michel Juillot now radiates across the whole of the Côte Chalonnaise. In pure, Burgundian style, Laurent Juillot avoids all intervention; working only with indigenous yeasts, he crafts single-parcel cuvées that express each of his terroirs wonderfully.

Michel Juillot took over the domaine in 1963 and multiplied its operating area six fold in 20 years. Thanks to numerous experiences of trial and error, he eventually found his way and his recipe for quality. His son Laurent, after having travelled around the New World, returned in the 1990s and began to move the vineyard towards responsible and sustainable farming. In recent years, the installation of two meteorological stations has provided the Juillots with constant monitoring, making it possible to minimise the vagaries of the climate and spray less. This family success has greatly increased the prestige of the Mercurey appellation and he now exports to 26 countries.

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY...

BETTANE & DESSEAUVE

“Careful maintenance of the vines, perfect mastery of balance in the cellar, without pumping and very little intervention to keep the fruit as in tact as possible: everything is thoughtfully organised, producing beautiful cuvées.”

LA REVUE DU VIN DE FRANCE

“Bringing together the historic savoir-faire of his family with his innovative spirit, Laurent creates his wines in a way that preserves a faithful imprint of the terroir. Along with the plethora of Mercurey premiers crus, we shouldn’t forget to mention the exquisite red Corton-Perrières and the rarest Corton-Charlemagne, the two jewels of the domain.”
