        Grans Muralles

Located in Spain, the Torres estate was founded in 1870 by Jaime Torres Vendrell. He built its cellar opposite the Vilafranca railway station. Upon his death in 1905, leaving no heir behind him, his possessions were distributed among his brothers and nephews, except for the estate, which he left to his brother Miguel. The latter died five years later, leaving it to his son Juan Torres. It wasn't until 1928 that the estate began distilling and ageing brandies. His son Miguel Torres then took over the business at the age of 23. The estate was partially destroyed by bombing in January 1939 during the Spanish civil war. The wine that until then had only been sold in barrels, was sold bottled and labelled in 1940. The first non-traditional grape varieties were planted in the 1960s. There was then a shift towards using steel vats. From the 1980s, production techniques began to change. Yields were voluntarily reduced and the fruit itself became more important than the wood and tannins.
