Château de Ferrand (Saint-Emilion)

Promoted to the ranks of Saint-Emilion’s grands crus classés in 2012, Château de Ferrand is fast reaching the peak of its appellation, with the quality of its work and its wines still continuing to get better.

The history of Château de Ferrand begins in the 18th century, and it has belonged to only two different families throughout its wine growing activity. Purchased in 1978 by famous businessman Baron Bich, the estate is now run by his daughter Pauline and her husband Philippe Chandon-Moët. They’ve been taking care of things since 2005, and together they’ve modernised much of the estate.
Located on the limestone plateau of Saint-Hippolyte, the Ferrand has 32 hectares of vines surrounded by 10 hectares of biodiverse forest and land. 70% of the vines are Merlot, with 29% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon keeping them company. Their sustainable viticulture is confirmed by a Terra Vitis certificate, and organic conversion began in 2021.
In the cellar, single-parcel vinification is prioritised and the wines are matured for 14 to 18 months, in a balance of new wood and used casks.
