Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots Cathiard Molinier 1979
The wine
The history of Burgundy vineyards goes back centuries and has been influenced not only by monks and abbeys, but also by the Pontifical court (Avignon) and royals who, for a long time, contributed to the reputation of the wines produced here. The hedonistic Louis XIV did not try to hide his fondness for Romanée wines. Legend has it that Madame de Pompadour tried to acquire the vineyard, but was beaten to it by Prince de Conti...
Indisputably the jewel of the Côte de Nuits, the Vosne vineyard counts several legendary crus such as Romanée-Conti and Tâche. Stamped with richness, finesse, complexity and harmony, Vosne-Romanée symbolises, above all, elegance. Their dominant mellowness is balanced by discrete tannins and a touch of acidity. These fleshy, highly persistent wines are highly aromatic, with unique perfumes of cherry, strawberry and undergrowth. One of the best appellation wines comes from the monopole cru Clos des Réas situated on the Nuit-Saint-Georges appellation border.
