Godet Frères Of. Gastronome V.S.O.P. (no reserve)
The wine
A magnum of Godet VSOP cognac. We estimate this bottle to be from the 1960s/1970s. VSOP, which stands for Very Special Old Pale, means the spirit has been aged in oak for at least four years.
About the Producer Godet
Maison Godet was founded in 1588 by Bonaventure Godet, a Dutch salt merchant operating in La Rochelle. Henry IV granted him the right to distil his own wine, resulting in the creation of what was then known as Dutch burnt wine, an ancestor of cognac. This led, two centuries later in 1782, to the creation of Godet Frère Cognac by Gédéon Louis Godet. The house is still family-owned today.
