The wine
The grapes in this wine are fully de-stemmed and macerated for around one month with daily pump-over, rack and return, and punch-down. After this, the wine is matured in wood for 6 to 8 months. It has a beautiful purple colour and distinctive notes of macerated dark fruits, resin, and sweet spice. This powerful and elegant wine can be kept for several years in the cellar and pairs well with full-flavoured dishes such as game in sauce.
About the Producer Charbonnière
La Charbonnière has been passed down from one generation to the next since it was bought by Eugène Maret in 1912. Today, his descendants Caroline and Véronique Maret preside over 27 hectares which straddle the Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vacqueyras and Côtes-du-Rhône appellations. Together, and under the watchful eye of their father Michel, they continue their family's traditional methods by growing grapes by plot and favouring sustainable growing; adhering to the lunar calendar, they use natural fertilisers and harvest by hand.
