Côte-Rôtie Jamet (Domaine) 1999
The wine
The classic Côte-Rôtie wine is made from twenty different parcels, providing a wonderful snapshot of the terroirs of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. Vinified using stemmed grapes, it is matured for twenty-two months in barrique barrels. It is a wine that requires a minimum of five years' cellaring (much longer in the best years) to fully express its refined texture and powerful aromas. An unmissable wine from this appellation.
About the Producer Jamet
Domaine Jamet was established in the early 1950s. Until the Côte-Rôtie went through a revival at the start of the 1970s it was planted primarily with fruit trees. In the early days, harvests from the vineyard were sold to the region's main négociants, but Joseph Jamet began producing his own wine in 1976. The property went on to be managed by Joseph's two sons, Jean-Paul and Jean-Luc, who both raised it to the highest of standards. In 2013, Jean-Luc, who until then had been responsible for the vineyards, left the business. It is now run by Jean-Paul and his wife Corinne. Their son Loïc is also increasingly involved having studied viticulture and oenology and spent time in South Africa. The property's 17 hectares of vines are planted on 16 lieux-dits including the renowned Côte Brune. The grapes are harvested as late as possible to allow the berries to achieve optimum ripeness.
