Château Coutet 1er Grand Cru Classé 1997
The wine
The Château Coutet produces one of the Barsacs most sought after by the amateurs. Less rich than Yquem or Suduiraut, it has an impressive mineral texture and freshness thanks to its famous red soil – combination of iron oxide and limestone rock. It develops aromas of citrus fruits, tropical fruits and honey. This wine ages gracefully.
About the Producer Château Coutet
One of the oldest estates in Sauternais, the Château Coutet vineyard is also the largest in Barsac. Its soil is even, made up of fine gravel, calcareous silt and alluvium deposited by the Garonne. The estate also produces a creamy wine with incredible richness: the Cuvée Madame (production limited to 1,200 bottles in the best vintages) which rivals the Château d'Yquem. Its wines are well-crafted and characteristic, with fantastic creaminess and intense notes of citrus fruits, tropical fruits and honey.
