Château Clarke

An unusual figure of the Médoc vineyard, Château Clarke is characterised by its unique terroir of clay and limestone soils, typical of the Right Bank and conducive to growing a majority of Merlot grapes. The wines are sought-after as much for their immediate charm as their superb cellaring potential.

Baron Edmond de Rothschild acquired two properties in 1973: Château Malmaison in Moulis and the adjoining Château Clarke. Baron Edmond immediately initiated a substantial investment programme, and resuscitated Château Clarke in the literal sense of the term. A wine of tremendous class is produced as a result of a respect for tradition combined with highly modern vinification and ageing techniques.
