Barolo DOCG Cascina Badarina Bersano 1990
The wine
Mainly produced using the Nebbiolo variety, Barolo can be considered as one of Italy's greatest wines. Located at altitude, the vineyard is made up of sandy loam, magnesium and manganese in the north-west as well as iron-rich land in the south-east. Two styles of Barolo can be found. The first are modern, fruity and supple wines with riper tannins thanks to ageing in new barrels. The other kind are classic Barolos, thick with high tannin levels and often dried by delayed bottling. Generally speaking, Barolo wines can be identified by their very dark colour as well as remarkable aromatic complexity. These massive, powerful but elegant wines are characterised by notes of creamy vanilla, tobacco and smoke.
